Joy Mangano was born in New York, on Long Island, USA, and after graduating from high school, she entered New York University, graduating in 1978 with a BA in business administration. After college, Mangano worked in various locations, married and had three children. In 1989, Mangano divorced and moved to Smithtown, New York, and found that the first idea that came to him was an inspiration from the daily mess of household chores.
